NRG Energy (NYSE: NRG ) is about to hand out more money to its shareholders. The company will distribute $0.12 per share of its common stock on May 15 to shareholders of record as of May 1. That amount represents a 33% increase on the company's three previous disbursements, each of which tallied $0.09 per share. The most recent of these was paid at the end of January.
NRG Energy can hardly be characterized as a longtime dividend payer. The just-announced payout is the fourth in its history; the company only began dispensing such monies last summer.
The new dividend annualizes to $0.48 per share. That yields 1.8% at NRG Energy's current stock price of $27.26.
