In Germany, Mannheim Regional Court judge Andreas Voss has ruled against Samsung and in favor of Apple in a patent infringement complaint. This ruling is the first one of Samsung�s seven patent claims in Germany against Apple.
The full detailed written ruling is not yet available. The patent involved is believed to be EP 1,005,726. The patent covers turbo encoding and decoding device as well as method for process frame data according to quality-of-service. Here is the abstract:
Samsung has the option to appeal to the Higher Regional Court in Karlsruhe.
This patent claim is not likely to have any immediate impact on either company. When the written ruling becomes available, I will keep you informed if there are any far reaching effects.
Apple has also filed claims against Samsung for infringing six patents.
Many more patent related battles are yet to come between Apple, Samsung, HTC, Google (GOOG), and Microsoft (MSFT). It is going to be a long patent war.
