Alaska Airlines Raises Fees, Stock Jumps

Most passengers buying tickets on Alaska Airlines (NYSE: ALK  ) on or after Oct. 30 will be paying higher fees for checked baggage and for changing or cancelling their tickets, the airline announced today.

All passengers wishing to change or cancel their flights may do so for free up until 60 days before the flight departure. However, changing or cancelling tickets less than 60 days before departure will cost $125, an increase from $75 or $100, depending on how the change is made.

Changing and cancelling tickets will still be free for first-class purchased tickets and for tickets that Alaska Airlines premium members have bought.

Checking up to two bags will cost $25 each, with subsequent bags costing an additional $75 each. That will be an increase from a cost of $20 for each of he first three bags, with subsequent bags costing $50 each.

Carry-on bags will still be free.

The company said it expects the new fees to increase annual revenue by approximately $50 million. Alaska Airlines' stock rose 7.66% today.
