In airline news today, Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer (ERJ) said it is preparing a bid to sell light attack aircraft to the U.S. Air Force by the end of next month. The military is expected to make a decision in 2013.
The move comes after the government cancelled a $355 million contract with Embraer and its partner, Sierra Nevada Corp. in February, following fellow aircraft maker Hawker Beechcraft Corp.’s concerns over documentation. The sale would have been the first deal between Embraer and the Air Force.

Elsewhere, India is threatening to ban all European Union aircraft in retaliation for the Continent’s potential new emissions laws.
India is one of 27 countries protestingthe EU’s planned regulation that would require all airlines to hold permits allowing them to emit carbon dioxide during any takeoff or landing from any airport in the region. Detractors say that the procedure will be prohibitively costly.
India’s national carrier, Air India, is also considering hiring new pilots as more than 300 of its current crew have been on strike since May 7 to protest the company’s plan to train only a limited number of pilots for its soon-to-be-acquired Boeing (BA) Dreamliners.
