Nintendo Warns FY 2011 Profits To Fall On Slower Wii Sales

Nintendo warned today that it expects net income for the March 2011 fiscal year will likely drop to about 200 million yen – around $2.1 billion – down 13% from FY 2010. That follows an 18% in the latest year, which the company reported earlier today. FY 2010 sales were down 22%.

Bloomberg notes that the Street had been expected FY 2011 profits of 220.9 billion yen.

Nintendo expects to sell 12% fewer consoles in FY 2011 than in the previous year, but with 11% higher sales for the company’s DS handheld games, including an upcoming 3D version. The company sees sales of 18 million Wii consoles this year, with 30 million DS handhelds.
