Google: Challenge to Privacy Policy Dismissed, Says Bloomberg

Bloomberg’s Tom Schoenberg and Sara Forden this afternoon report that U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson dismissed a suit by The Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), claiming Google’s (GOOG) changes to its privacy policy violate a user data settlement reached with the Federal Trade Commission.

Judge Jackson said that “she lacked authority to order the Federal Trade Commission to take action” against Google, write Schoenberg and Forden.

EPIC executive director Marc Rotenberg said the group is appealing the ruling today. The FTC tells Schoenberg and Forden that “no outside parties should be able to enforce” what the FTC has instituted with respect to settlement orders.

Google shares today are $4.22, or 0.7%, at $610.33.
