Friday’s biggest gaining and declining stocks

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) � Shares of the following companies were among those that made moves in Friday�s U.S. stock market:

Advancers

Cell Therapeutics Inc. CTIC �shares leapt nearly 22% to close at $1.35 after the company said the European Medicines Agency had advised conditional approval of its treatment for non-Hodgkin�s B-cell lymphoma.

First Solar Inc. FSLR �shares jumped 7.3% on news the company had sorted out permitting trouble at a solar plant under construction near Los Angeles, clearing the way for the resumption of financing.

FreightCar America Inc. RAIL �shares gained 19% after the freight-car maker and repair group reported a fourth-quarter profit that beat market expectations.

Frontier Communications Corp. FTR climbed 7.2% to $4.78 after Standard & Poor�s Ratings Services said its ratings on the local carrier was not impacted by the company�s dividend reduction.

SunPower Corp. SPWR �shares rose 8.7% after the provider of solar-energy technology late Thursday reported an unexpected fourth-quarter profit.

Web.com Group Inc. WWWW �shares climbed 4.1% a day after the builder of small-business websites reported fourth-quarter earnings that beat expectations.

Arthrocare Corp. ARTC �shares retreated 19% after the surgical-tool maker late Thursday reported fourth-quarter sales short of expectations.

Gilead Sciences Inc. GILD �shares lost 14% after reporting disappointing test results related to a hepatitis C treatment.

Life Technologies Corp. LIFE �shares declined 7.8% after a competitor, British firm Oxford Nanpore, unveiled gene-sequencing technology.

Maxwell Technologies Inc. MXWL �shares slipped 5.3% after Robert W. Baird & Co. downgraded the electronic-component maker to neutral from outperform. The company reported financial results late Thursday.

Qlik Technologies Inc. QLIK � shares declined 8.2% a day after the analysis-software firm projected current-quarter revenue short of expectations.

RealPage Inc. RP � shares slid more than 14% a day after the supplier of rental-management software projected first-quarter profit below consensus estimates.
