Nasdaq: A Long Way Since Nov. 2000, a Long Way to 5,132

The Nasdaq Composite Index today closed up 56.22 points, or 1.9%, at 3,039.88, its first close above 3,000 since December of 2000, and the Index’s highest level since November 15th of that year. Also, it was the largest one-day point gain since December 20th, 2011.

During that period from November of 2000 to today, the Nasdaq fell to a low of 1,165.83 on October 10th of 2002, and rallied from there by 167%.

Mind you, we are still a ways from a high in the last two decades of 5,132.52 hit on March 10th of 2000.

Among today’s biggest gainers were Agilisys (AGYS), up $1.07, or almost 13%, at $9.33; Cabot Microelectronics (CCMP), up $2.75, 7.6%, at $38.98; and Ciena (CIEN), up $1.07, or 7%, at $15.64.
