All Together Now: Hope for European, Fed Action Sends Stocks Higher

A report that G-20 countries will work together next week to bolster economies throughout the world sent shares higher this afternoon. That was just one hint that policymakers around the world are reinforcing the windows and doors in preparation for a possible storm in the next week following the Greek election on Sunday. And just as U.S. markets were about to close, the Wall Street Journal reported that UK policymakers are also working to shore up that country’s financial institutions.

The market is also hoping that the Fed gets into the act: investors are growing more confident that the FOMC will act to stimulate the U.S. economy when it meets next week.

The Dow jumped 155.5 points, or 1.2%, on Thursday.
