Stock Futures Rising After Death of North Korean Leader

Stock futures rose early Monday as European markets started the day higher. Asian stocks mostly fell following the announcement of North Korean leader Kim Jong-il’s death.

Investors could be in for a slow week leading up to Christmas on Sunday, but the next two weeks will determine whether the indexes end the year in the black or the red. The Dow is slightly ahead for the year, and the S&P 500 is slightly down.

On Monday, Dow futures rose 57 points to 11,835. S&P 500 futures rose 7.3 points to 1,218.2.

Las Vegas Sands (LVS) rose 3.3% after the company said Hong Kong securities regulators have decided not to take action against Sands China. Cablevision (CVC) rebounded 2.6% after falling hard on Friday following the sudden resignation of its well-regarded COO.
